If there’s one thing you learn in college, it’s how to use even the smallest bits of “edge” time to work towards your goals. That could mean finishing an assignment between class and work, reading while walking on the treadmill at the gym, or listening to an audio book while walking to class.
Even though life looks a little different for me post-undergrad, I still like to use the in-between times in my life for learning and to maximize my down-time when I can. One of the easiest ways for me to do that is by listening to podcasts.
The range of topics I listen to varies, so my podcasts include sermons, business interviews, book and movie discussions, podcasts on education, and more.
Here are five of my favorite podcasts, in no particular order and of all different topics!
This podcast features sermons from Presence OC Church in Costa Mesa, California. I happened upon it one day (I think I was searching for something related to Bethel Church in Redding?) and have been listening to it for probably more than a year now. Even though I’ve never physically set foot in the church, I find Presence OC to be authentic and encouraging, and I really enjoying tuning in to their services from time to time while I drive.
Truth for Teachers
According to her podcast website, Angela Watson’s Truth for Teachers podcast is “designed to speak life, encouragement, and truth into the minds and hearts of educators and get you energized for the week ahead.” As a new educator, I’m inspired by Angela’s wisdom. She also has a blog, which I haven’t had the chance to delve into much, but, by the looks of it, I need to check it out very soon!
Even though I’m not really a “business person,” so to speak, I enjoy listening to Dr. Henry Cloud’s Leadership University podcast about what makes a great leader. Most of the episodes are interviews with acclaimed leaders in different business areas, such as Liz Wiseman, the founder or Oracle University, or Mindy Oliver, the director of customer service at Amazon.com. Honestly, listening to Dr. Cloud makes me feel kind of professional and like I have my life together a little bit.
The Shauna Niequist Podcast
In this podcast, author Shauna Niequist interviews other authors, speakers, and experts about their works. I absolutely loved Shauna’s book Present Over Perfect and hope to read some of her other works, like Bread and Wine, in the future. This podcast is a great way to hear about other great authors.
The Accidental Creative
Author and speaker Todd Henry “teachers people and teams how to be prolific, brilliant, and healthy.” Similar to Dr. Cloud, his podcast focuses on creativity and productivity and includes interviews with authors, business people, and artists. I enjoy listening to his innovative and relevant ideas.
Well, those are a few of my favorite podcasts to tune in to when I’m getting ready for the day, driving, or working on craft projects / painting. My husband has been throwing around the idea of starting his own podcast, so maybe soon I can add his to the list!
Do you have any favorite podcasts? Additionally, I’d love to hear about any audio books you’d recommend!
